Zircon Is NOT Cubic Zirconia

Natural zircon is the oldest mineral on Earth, with some crystals dated at 4.4 billion years old. Cubic zirconia, by contrast, is a lab-created synthetic material developed in the 1970s. Natural Ceylon zircon has a refractive index close to diamond, giving it exceptional fire and lustre. It was historically used as a diamond substitute long before cubic zirconia existed.

Ceylon Green Zircon

Our collection focuses on naturally green Ceylon zircon, a rarer colour variety than the more common blue and colourless forms. Both stones in this collection are untreated cushion cuts, 1.84ct and 2.63ct, priced from $600 AUD. Zircon scores 7-7.5 on the Mohs scale and is durable enough for pendants, earrings, and occasional-wear rings.

Is zircon the same as cubic zirconia?

No. Zircon is a natural mineral formed in the Earth over billions of years. Cubic zirconia is a synthetic lab-grown material. They share a similar name but are chemically, optically, and historically unrelated.

Is Ceylon zircon treated?

Blue zircon is typically heat-treated. Our green zircon stones are natural-colour and untreated. Treatment status is disclosed on every certificate.
