What Is a Yellow Sapphire?
A yellow sapphire is a natural variety of corundum coloured by trace iron, displaying hues from pale canary to deep golden orange. Ceylon (Sri Lankan) yellow sapphires are the most historically significant source, prized for their bright, transparent colour and high clarity. Yellow sapphire is the September birthstone and is also traditionally associated with the planet Jupiter in Vedic astrology, making it one of the most spiritually significant sapphires. Fine yellow sapphires score 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, the same as ruby and blue sapphire, making them fully suitable for daily-wear engagement rings.
Unheated Ceylon Yellow Sapphires
Three of our four yellow sapphires are fully unheated, a significant rarity in the market. Natural yellow sapphires get their colour from trace iron inclusions during formation; most commercial stones are heated to intensify colour, but unheated examples retain their original earth-formed hue. Each unheated piece is verified by CGL certification.
Size & Price Guide
Our yellow sapphires range from 1.10ct to 3.17ct, priced from $600 AUD for entry pieces to $4,500+ AUD for large unheated stones. Popular cuts include radiant, emerald, rectangle, and heart, versatile for both classic solitaires and modern statement settings. Yellow sapphire is also a traditional choice in astrological jewellery.
